Springfield man stabbed and robbed early Sunday morning

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police are investigating an early morning stabbing and robbery that happened near the Springfield College campus.

The Springfield Police Department told CBS 3 that the incident, which happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday, took place in the area of the Greene Street and Eastern Avenue intersection.

The victim told police that two black males stopped him while he was walking. One of the suspects had a knife, the other showed a gun.

They demanded money, but police said the victim was stabbed in the arm before he could get to his cash.  The alleged robbers then stole approximately $340 from the victim's wallet before they fled.

Police said one of the suspects was wearing an orange sweatshirt, while the other was wearing a dark shirt.

The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center.

The incident remains under investigation.
