HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Water from beneath Farmington Avenue in Hartford shot into the air after a water main break early Tuesday morning.

The incident was reported before 9:30 a.m.

According to the Metropolitan District Commission, there is a new water main being installed, and it appeared as though the old main was cut or hit, causing the break.

MDC officials said that it's a fairly large pipe, and there was a lot of water being forced from a tiny hole causing the geyser effect.

The repairs were completed around noon time after crews capped the pipe.

It is an older pipe, so it is expected to replaced soon, MDC officials said.

No customers were affected during the time of repairs.

The incident is under investigation.
