The Hartford Police Department is investigating reports of a sexual assault involving two Trinity College students.
Officials from Trinity College said officers responded to reports of the assault around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Hartford detectives gathered outside a home on Broad Street Wednesday morning, collected evidence, compared notes and stood watch over the Trinity-owned building used as off-campus housing.
It's the location where a female student told police she was sexually assaulted by a male classmate.
Trinity officials said the victim was brought to Hartford Hospital and is receiving support from Trinity staff.
"The college will do all that it can to support the victim, and will cooperate fully with the Hartford police," a statement from Trinity College read.
School administrators said they aren't taking the allegations lightly and activated their sexual assault response team.
"Two types of consequences - one by Hartford Police Department, could involve criminal charges and the student will come before Trinity College disciplinary council and a range of actions taken from probation, suspension and expulsion," said Michele Jacklin, the director of media relations at Trinity College.
Police said the two allegedly involved students knew each other.
Unidentified sources said there was some sort of gathering at the home Tuesday night and alcohol was served at the event. Eyewitness News found a keg and other evidence of a party behind the Broad Street building Wednesday.
Sources said the girl reported the incident herself.
"This isn't the place you'd expect any of that to happen here," said Trinity College senior Rob Black.
The incident came as a surprise to students, who were notified through a campuswide email.
"Last night was the first night of school," said senior Christina Mayor, of New Caanan. "It's not good to hear that all."
The incident remains under investigation. Police have spoken to the boy accused in this case and so far, there haven't been any charges.
