Rutherford County authorities arrested the final suspect in connection to a robbery and shooting on Mt. Tabor Road on Sunday afternoon in the southeastern portion of the county.
Authorities arrested James Richard Russell, 35, on Compton Road north of Murfreesboro at about 7:30 on Monday morning, according to authorities.
Russell had fled the Pineview Estates Mobile Home Park off U.S. Highway 41.
Authorities found Bradley Benefield, 25, hiding in a garage near his home.
Deputies got a call about a woman shot just before 2 p.m. Sunday at her home on Mt. Tabor Road off U.S. Highway 41 South.
A number of neighbors at the Pineview Estates Mobile Home Park heard the gunshots.
"It was pretty scary to see someone get shot like that," neighbor Larry Garland said.
Garland had planned to spend the day moving into his new place in the mobile home park. But that quickly came to a stop when he heard a loud noise. It was the same noise that woke Barbara Lucei from her bed.
"I seen the guy go in the house like four times, load up their car," Lucei said. "He had the shotgun in his hand. He was waving it around. He pointed it at me."
Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold said that man is Russell, who drove off in a white Jeep. Moments later Lucei and her mother ran to the woman who had been shot.
"We got the towel, and we wrapped her up and she was just laying right here," Lucei said.
Lucei said it didn't take long before several officers arrived. She said it was then she learned the masked gunman was not alone.
"Apparently there was another guy that ran out before I even knew what was going on, and that's where the husband went," Lucei said.
Investigators said Benefield also ran off with an axe in hand. Officers launched an all-out manhunt both in the air and on the ground. K-9 teams were brought in to follow the suspects' scent. But while tracking one of the suspects, Eli, a K-9, collapsed due to the heat.
"With the heat like this, you got all your officers wearing protective gear. ... It's hard on the officers, hard on the dogs," Arnold said.
Arnold said they found Benefield hiding in his neighbor's garage.
Still Lucei said she's now concerned about safety in her neighborhood.
"This is the most horrible thing, and she's younger than me, that girl I helped today," Lucei said.
The woman who was shot was taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
