Police discovered a grenade in a wooded area of Groton on Tuesday evening, however it was determined not to be explosive.
Investigators said the grenade was located in a wooded area near Georgia and Florida streets around 6 p.m.
Homes near the scene were evacuated for a brief period of time, police said.
The state police bomb squad was called to the scene and found the grenade had no explosive charge.
