Henderson police identified Thursday the woman accused of ordering her 11-year-old son to set fire to a mini-van, which resulted in the boy getting burned.
According to police, Juanita Carr, 30, was booked into Henderson Detention Center Wednesday on counts of arson, conspiracy to commit arson and child abuse with substantial bodily harm.
Police said Carr believed a minivan belonging to her was stolen but later learned the vehicle was taken to an area near Sam Boyd Silver Bowl by her son and an 18-year-old acquaintance.
According to police, the woman drove the two to show her where the minivan was parked at Wisner Way and Aspen Peak Loop. On the way to the location, the woman, as police said, stopped to purchase a one gallon gas can and a gallon of gasoline.
Police allege the woman ordered her child to pour gasoline inside the minivan and set it on fire. In the process, the boy's clothing caught flames, according to police.
Citing Carr, police said the boy dropped to the ground while she patted him to put out the fire. The woman took her son to a nearby gas station to seek help once the flames were out, according to police.
The child was rushed to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening burn injuries.
Police learned from Carr that she was behind on payments for the vehicle and she recently spent money on repairs only for the minivan not to work properly.
Police also said they were looking for the 18-year-old involved in the incident. Police urge anyone with information on the fire to contact Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4750, or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
