NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Residents in one New Haven neighborhood is upset and taking action after a garbage truck comes up and down their street at 4 a.m. each day.

They told Eyewitness News these private garbage trucks are breaking the city's noise ordinance, which prohibits loud noise before 6 a.m.

One woman even took a video of the trucks and it showed the noise they were causing.

The alderman for the area said he has been reaching out to all of the private trash removal companies to remind them.

Police in New Haven said these companies can face fines of up to $100, but they have to hear the trucks making the noise. They can't rely on video.

John's Refuse Removal told Eyewitness News Thursday they are trying to accommodate everyone. They're more concerned about driving their big trucks around when kids are getting on and off school busses.

One mother, who has a 7-month-old and a 3-year-old, said it wakes them up sometimes, but that's just part of living in the city.

"Whatever time works for them, this is their job," she said. "They are the ones, who are going to decide when to collect the trash."

New Haven's public works, who picks up private resident's trash is exempt from the noise ordinance, but they have been working with neighborhoods to alter routes to help keep the noise down.
