The biggest fight of the year is slated for Saturday, and it promises to be one of the most lucrative.

Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather tipped the scales on Friday at MGM Grand Arena, a madhouse more than 24 hours before the fight.

In fact, people had to be turned away as more than 11,000 fight fans filled every seat in the house - something MGM executives had never witnessed before.

"We just closed the doors. We can't let anybody else in. Those are things that have never really happened with big fights like this," said MGM Grand President Scott Sibella.

The spectacle even brought out UFC President Dana White, who was thoroughly impressed.

"The place is packed for the weigh-in. This place is going crazy. When you're a fight fan - look at me, I'm not in my office. I left work today to come out here and watch this. I love these opportunities to be a fan," White said.

The majority of fans came out for Canelo, but supporters of both fighters are selling out hotels, driving up room rates and spending cash left and right.

"Maybe today we're going to spend about $2,000. I have about $6,000 into this trip," one fight fan said.

"When the fight was announced, the rates started creeping up because people started booking, and then we sold out quickly and the overflow goes to the other properties, our sister properties," Sibella said.

The MGM broke a record, selling more than $20 million in tickets. No one is getting into the fight for free, not even celebrities.

"Usually we can help them out, but with this fight there's such a demand. If they want to come, they'll have to pay for their tickets," Sibella said.

Mayweather is a 2 ½ favorite to win.

It's not just the fight attracting people to Las Vegas this weekend. With a slew of highly-anticipated college and professional football games slated this weekend, the sports books will also rake in cash.
