Motorcyclist killed in early morning traffic incident

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A motorcyclist died this morning near E. Irvington Road and Benson Highway after a traffic incident involving two other vehicles.

Portion of Irvington Road was closed for approximately two hours due to the early morning fatal motorcycle accident.

According to TPD, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupants in the other vehicles were not injured.

Authorities determined that a 1997 Ford Van was stopped behind traffic in the outside lane of eastbound Irvington Road for a red light at Benson Highway.

A Hyundai Accent was reportedly slowing to stop behind the Ford Van when the motorcyclist cut in between the two vehicles, according to a news release. The Hyundai Accent was unable to avoid hitting the motorcycle from behind. The motorcycle hit the front of the Hyundai Accent and the driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was then thrown into the back of the Ford Van.

The motorcyclist was later identified as Ruben M. Reyes, 43. Next of kin have been notified.
