PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

A Glendale man convicted of murdering a man and burning his body in the desert was sentenced to 25 1/2 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 32-year-old Daniel Griffith was sentenced Thursday.

He received a 22-year prison term for second-degree murder, two years for abandonment and concealment of a dead body and 1 1/2 years for fraudulent use of a credit card with all of the sentences running consecutively.

Griffith pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder, abandonment/concealment of a dead body and fraudulent use of a credit card at a hearing in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Griffith and his wife, 31-year-old Jennifer Griffith, both of Glendale, were arrested after the burned remains were found in the West Valley desert.

Glendale homicide detectives acquired information that led them to the man's body. The body had been burned and dumped in the desert in the White Tanks Mountain region near 195th and Olive avenues in February 2011.

The victim is believed to be Edward Aguirre, who was romantically linked to Jennifer Griffith, according to Superior Court documents.

Daniel Griffith originally pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder and one count of abandonment/concealment of body parts.

Authorities say Daniel Griffith tried to use the victim's credit card soon after the killing.

Jennifer Griffith was arrested on one count of abandonment/concealment of body parts and one count of tampering with evidence. She is awaiting her trial in the case.
