Conn. school superintendent fighting to keep job

Bridgeport School Superintendent Paul Vallas is fighting to keep his job amid questions about his reform efforts and his qualifications.

A lawsuit challenging his credentials has reached the Connecticut Supreme Court. And a city Board of Education election in November is threatening to wipe out the current pro-Vallas majority and potentially lead to a vote to oust him.

The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments Monday.

Vallas isn't certified by the state to be a school superintendent. At issue is whether a course Vallas took meets the standards of a state law allowing the certification requirement to be waived.

Vallas is appealing a lower court ruling that he should be removed from the job immediately.

He previously led troubled, big city school districts in Chicago, Philadelphia and New Orleans.
