The Vanderbilt football program has come a long way in a short time.
There was a time no long ago that the Commodores used to count moral victories after playing well in close losses. Now they get downright testy over how they're playing when they win.
Coach James Franklin said Monday there's no such thing as an "ugly win" and he'll take as many as he can get. Still, he knows his team needs to play better and that people expect more from this Southeastern Conference program now.
The Commodores struggled to put away winless Massachusetts last weekend 24-7, sealing the win with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels says they only punted once in nine possessions.
Vanderbilt hosts Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday night.
