The state is staying out of a labor dispute and the dire finances of a Groton fire district.
The Day of New London reports that an official of the state Office of Policy and Management met Monday with Poquonnock Bridge Fire District board members.
The fire district is close to the end of a 30-day waiting period imposed by the state Board of Labor Relations. The state agency ordered the fire district to honor a 10-year contract with firefighters calling for 3 percent annual raises and other benefits.
A spokesman for the Office of Policy and Management says the state would not get involved in the labor dispute.
Fire district officials were told they'd need approval from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to claim bankruptcy, which OPM says would be a first.
