LEDYARD, CT (WFSB) -

A new era in shopping broke ground in Mashantucket Thursday.

Tanger Outlet stores has teamed up with Foxwoods Resort Casino to build a $120 million upscale retail center in Ledyard.

The 312,000-square-foot center will be built between the Grand Pequot Tower and the M.G.M. Grand.

The Greensboro, NC, based retailer says the focus of the project will be a luxury experience.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the project will create 400 construction jobs and 600 retail jobs.

"This strategy of laying out a different vision for this property and to envision it as a great place to visit, whether you want to game or shop, makes perfect sense," Malloy said.

The project is expected to take 18 months to build.
