56-year-old man injured after being hit by a police motorcycle

MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

A 56-year-old man remains in the hospital after being struck by a motorcycle driven by a police officer in Middletown Thursday night.

According to police, Donald E. Wilson was walking in the area of 605 Saybrook Rd. when he collided with motorcycle being driven by Officer Peter Botsacos.

Botsacos, who is a 9-year veteran of the Middletown Police Department, was thrown from the bike after hitting a pedestrian in the road. He was treated and released from Hartford Hospital.

Wilson was taken to Hartford Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. 

It's unclear how fast the officer was traveling, but police said it was fast enough to shatter a significant part of the motorcycle.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Middletown Police Department at 860-638-4064.
