Firefighters were called into action Sunday evening, responding to a fire on Quincy Street around 6:30 p.m.
Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, said that the fire started in the second-floor kitchen of the two-family home, but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The four residents on the second floor are being helped by the Red Cross.
The two tenants on the first floor have also been temporarily displaced, as the building suffered about $25,000 to $35,000 in damage.
There were no injuries to tenants or firefighters.
