An Enfield motorcyclist is recovering in the hospital Monday morning after being struck while on his bike along Route 5.

Enfield Police said 56-year-old Jerry Gatten was riding along Route 5 near the intersection of the Interstate 91 northbound, exit 49, around 9:45 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by an SUV.

Officer said the driver of the SUV, 34-year-old Jill Michaud of Enfield, was operating the vehicle under the influence when she struck Gatten. She was arrested and charged with DUI.

Gatten was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, for what officers are calling serious injuries.
