Plainville man charged with possession of child porn

PLAINVILLE, CT (WFSB) -

A Plainville man turned himself in to police Monday after being accused of having child pornography and being involved in a sexting ring.

Police said they received complaints in April about an offshore website on a specific forum created for the Plainville girls that showed several images of young-looking women, including numerous Plainville residents from their early teenage years.

Police said the main purpose of the website was to allow users to anonymously post images and videos that were sexual in nature without having to go through a registration process.

Many of those underage local girls were taking pictures of themselves, which are commonly known as selfies.

Police said 20 women on the website were positively identified as former or current Plainville residents. Of those, police said, 16 were between 12 and 15 years old at the time the photos were taken.

Police said the youngest was between 12 and 13 years old, and none of the women had any knowledge that the photos they once consented to several years ago were being posted on the internet.

Investigators said Olsen was on the hunt specifically for pornographic selfies.

"Mr. Olsen thrived on the power and control he had over the fact that he possessed these young females' photographs," said Plainville police Detective Sgt. Nicholas Mullins.

An extensive investigation was launched, and police arrested Nicholas Olsen, 22, who they say was responsible for posting the nude images of the Plainville women.

Police said he spent years building up his collection of photographs from various people, and would store the images on home computers.

"Nicholas Olsen stored these photos on his home computers for several years," Mullins said.

Police said it does not appear that Olsen, who is a construction worker, used the pictures as leverage against the victims.

Police said that during the course of the investigation it was learned that Olsen, when he was 18 or 19, had a sexual relationship with a girl who was 14 or 15 years old.

Olsen was charged with possession of child pornography, eight counts of promoting a minor in an obscene performance, second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Olsen appeared in Bristol Superior Court on Monday and was released on a $75,000 bond. Olsen will only be able to travel to and from his construction job and will have to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Family members, who Olsen lives with in Southington, were in court and ushered him out of the courthouse.

"I have no comment to make, thank you," said Olsen's father outside of court.

The arrest warrant in this case was sealed for 14 days.
