A prison inmate has told a state Superior Court jury that a Connecticut man charged with killing his wife nearly 30 years ago confessed when the two men were incarcerated together.
The News-Times reports that Joseph Williams, who is serving a three-year sentence on narcotics sale charges, testified in Danbury Superior Court on Thursday that John Heath told him his wife, Elizabeth, wanted to divorce him and take everything he built and he would not let that happen.
Defense lawyer Frank O'Reilly accused Williams of testifying falsely to get out of jail early.
The 70-year-old Heath says his wife, whom he was divorcing, had left their home in the middle of the night.
He was arrested in April 2010 after his wife's body was found by new owners tearing up a barn floor.
