NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police in New Haven were called to 216 Spring St. Sunday morning when a caller reported finding the body of a deceased man.

Prior to the discovery of the body, according to police, the New Haven Public Service Answering Point received a call from a man at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday claiming he had been stabbed.

The caller reported to police that he was in a house in the area of Washington Avenue and Spring Street but did not provide the address or any further information.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection and began searching for the victim.

Police made numerous attempts to call the victim's phone, but none of the calls were answered.

Police interviewed people who were in the area but none had any information regarding the reported assault or information regarding the incident.

On Sunday at about 7:30 a.m., the victim's body was located inside a kitchen of the rear first floor apartment on Spring Street.

Police say the initial call to 911 reported seeing a body as they walked by the home. The victim, however, was not visible from the sidewalk.

Although detectives are looking for an identified person of interest in this case, they ask that anyone with information regarding this crime to call police at 203-946-6304.
