Scammers are using fear to try to con people out of their money.

The Defiance County Sheriff's Office says the latest in a long line of phone scams involves people posing as representatives from the attorney general's office.

The sheriff's office says residents have reported getting a call from someone who tells them they're behind on a certain tax, and if they don't pay up, a warrant will be issued for their arrest. Some people are falling for the story.

"My mother in law has had to report several scams in the last month or so," said Jan Franz. "It just seems like everyone's always out to make a quick buck off someone else, and it's unfortunate that they take advantage of other people."

Sheriff's officials say it's important to never give personal information or banking numbers out over the phone, especially if you're unsure of who is on the other end.
