PHOENIX (CBS5) -
An armed robbery attempt turned into a marijuana bust for Phoenix police on Tuesday morning.
Detectives said a man at 3100 W. Mohawk Dr. told them two men he didn't know tried to break into his house about 2:30 a.m., Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said.
The man told police that as they fled, one of them turned and fired a gun at him, though he was not hit, Martos said.
A neighbor offered to help him and called police.
When officers arrived and went into the home to check for other potential victims, they found a large amount of marijuana in the home.
Police told CBS 5 News there's no telling if they would have made the discovery had the neighbor not called police.
"When you see something suspicious in your neighborhood, if it doesn't look right, you got vehicles coming and going all hours of the day or people just driving up and down the street in front of one particular household, please give us a call," said Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes.
Police said they're investigating if the man in custody lives in the home or owns it.
Police had no description of the people involved in the home invasion but they did find evidence that a shooting took place.
