More than 240 furloughed workers at the Arizona Department of Economic Security are back on the job now that the federal government is back up and running.
Arizona also will be reimbursed for welfare payments made while federal funding was cut off from the program for low-income families.
The state also expects a refund for the unused portion of nearly $1.5 million it paid the government to reopen the Grand Canyon National Park for 16 days. The canyon was open only five days using state money so more than $1 million should be returned.
Arizona will have to wait to get back the $465,000 spent on canyon operations. Sen. John McCain's spokesman said Thursday he's working with lawmakers from other states that reopened parks to craft legislation allowing repayments.
