MAYER, AZ (CBS5) -

Yavapai County sheriff's detectives were searching for a 29-year-old Mayer man Friday in connection with a homicide in a remote area just south of Mayer.

An arrest warrant was issued for William Hewitt as a suspect in the death of a woman whose body was found in the remote area about 1:30 p.m. Friday, a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Hewitt might be armed and should not be approached, the spokesman said.

Hewitt was last seen about 10:45 a.m. Friday going west on Main Street in Mayer driving a tan 1979 Ford pickup truck with faded Humboldt School District emblems on the doors, the spokesman said. The truck also had running boards and Arizona license plate AXG9504. It no longer belongs to the school district the spokesman said.

Hewitt is described as 5'11" tall, 180 pounds, with blue eyes, brown hair and a scruffy beard. He was wearing a dark-color cowboy hat, blue jeans and work boots.

Anyone with information about Hewitt or his whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately or the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office at 928-771-3260. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
