Man faces sentencing in Conn. for credit card scam

HARTFORD, CT (AP) -

A Philadelphia man faces sentencing in Connecticut for stealing credit cards from women's pocketbooks he reached while crawling on movie theater floors.

Anthony Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Hartford. A jury last year found him guilty of charges of using stolen credit cards and identity theft.

An accomplice testified Johnson usually bought tickets to movies popular with women. She said Johnson slithered like a snake across movie theater floors before reaching inside partially opened purses and taking the credit cards.

Prosecutors say he should be sentenced to between 30 years to life in prison, citing the numerous victims, his lengthy criminal record and that he's unrepentant.

Johnson's attorney, Jonathan Einhorn, says a sentence of 30 years to life is not reasonable.
