New Haven police investigating fatal nightclub shooting

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police in New Haven are investigating an overnight shooting that has left one women dead and five others injured.

Police were called to the Key Club Cabaret on Saint John Street around 3:30 a.m. Saturday when a nearby police officer heard gunfire coming from within the club.

As the officers rushed to the scene, hundreds of patrons rushed from the club into the street.

Police were able to locate six gunshot victims within the club's after-hours area.

Erica Robinson, age 26, from New Haven died from her wounds. Jahad Brumsey, age 29, from New Haven was listed in critical condition.

Four others were wounded.

This is the 16th homicide this year in the City of New Haven.

Gov. Dannel Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman released the following statement today in response to the shooting.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the woman who died as a results of her injuries, the victims who are fighting for their lives and all who are impacted by this senseless violence. This is a tragic reminder that despite progress in recent yeas, Connecticut cities still suffer too often from the plague of gun violence. On the state, municipal and community levels, Connecticut must continue to work together to make all our communities safer."

The Key Club is an adult entertainment venue with an after-hours area, which has a bring your own alcohol policy.

The interior was littered with drug paraphernalia, drug packaging and reeked of marijuana, according to police.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting but no suspect has not been identified.
