Waterford and state police continue to investigate after an overnight standoff resulted in a man being found dead in his home.
Waterford police said they were called to the home at 147 Great Neck Road just before 9 p.m. Monday after receiving reports that a man inside the home was possibly armed with a gun and considering harming himself.
Police said, when they arrived, it was discovered that four children were inside the home with the man.
Officers attempted but were unable to make contact with the man inside the home.
Police evacuated the neighborhood, taking area residents to the police department for shelter.
The State Police Emergency Services Unit responded and made entry into the home, where they found the man dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
The four children were found unharmed and turned over to a family member, police said.
Waterford Police along with the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut State's Attorney's Office remain on the scene investigating the incident.
Police have not released the man's identity.
