PD: Man arrested for stealing his own vehicle

FARMINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A 32-year-old man is accused of stealing his own car after the vehicle was impounded following a driving under influence arrest Saturday night.

Jermel Pierre Johnson of Waterbury was driving in Farmington around 10 p.m.

Johnson was arrested and charged with drinking while operating, drug paraphernalia, failure to drive right, operation while under the influence possession less than one half ounce marijuana.

Following the arrest, Johnson's vehicle was towed to Farmington Motor Sports Inc. on Brickyard Road, police said.

After Johnson was released, police said he walked to Farmington Motor Sports Inc., which is about four miles away from the police department, and broke in.

Johnson got into Farmington Motor Sports Inc. by getting through an unlocked window, police said.

Police said Johnson took his vehicle without paying his towing bill and drove off.

Officers were notified about the theft and found the vehicle at Johnson's home on Central Avenue in Waterbury.

Johnson was arrested again and charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and operating a motor vehicle under suspended license.
