A 19-year-old female, who was missing for more than 24 hours, was located in East Hampton by police and volunteers.
Police issued a Silver Alert for Ashley Newell, who has "reported cognitive challenges," on Wednesday.
At least 65 people including firefighters from multiple departments searched for Newell in a wooded area near Chestnut and Old Chestnut roads Wednesday night.
"We've been canvassing quite extensively. Natural barriers are rivers," East Hampton police Chief Sean Cox. "It's a rugged terrain, so we're obviously hoping for the best."
The search started around 6:30 p.m. after Newell ran away from her guardian's home on Chestnut Hill Road following an argument, police said.
State police continued the search Thursday morning with local crews taking over late in the afternoon and into the evening hours.
The Silver Alert for Newell was canceled around 7:45 p.m. when she was located. Police told Eyewitness News that Newell was not seriously injured and brought home.
