A motorcyclist who ignored a Las Vegas Metro police officer's attempt at a traffic stop fatally slammed into a minivan late Sunday night, authorities said.
Las Vegas Metro police said the crash happened about 10:30 p.m. near Linn Lane and Charleston Boulevard.
Police said the 22-year-old man on the motorcycle, which did not have its headlight on, was traveling westbound on Charleston at a high-rate of speed. The motorcyclist crashed into a 2006 Dodge Caravan that was making a left turn from eastbound Charleston onto northbound Linn.
Police said the man on the motorcycle was ejected and died on scene.
Another vehicle was also struck by the minivan at the time of the crash, police said.
Police said an officer in a patrol vehicle tried to pull over the motorcyclist about a mile from the wreck. The man on the bike fled the stop and no pursuit was made, police said.
The crash marked the first of two motorcycle-related fatalities in Las Vegas in a matter of several hours. Police investigated a wreck that killed a man on Dean Martin Drive near Tropicana Avenue Monday morning.
