Man shot to death outside Portland nightclub decades after surviving drive-by

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 30-year-old man shot to death outside a Portland nightclub had been a victim of violence before.

Durieul Harris, who died from multiple gunshot wounds early Saturday morning, was also the victim of a shooting back in the early 1990s.

At 12:45 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a large fight outside the Fontaine Bleau nightclub, at 237 Northeast Broadway. They found a hostile crowd of up to 100 people when they arrived, and soon officers discovered Harris suffering from gunshot wounds.

"I was pulling back up to the party, I seen people running, commotion and when I got to the corner, I heard my little brother say, 'They shot me,'" said Ronesha Harris, Durieul's sister.

Two more shooting victims were also found, but they survived.

Harris' family held a candlelight vigil Saturday, remembering the loving father of two and hoping his killer would be brought to justice.

"You're a coward. You stole my brother from me and his kids," Ronesha Harris said. "Nothing more to be said. You're a coward."

Back in 1992, Harris was 9 years old and sleeping in the living room when a bullet hit his leg.

Harris talked to reporters from his hospital bed after surviving the gunfire that sprayed his house. He spoke out against the gang life that led to the imprisonment of his older brothers. He said he wanted to major in business and open his own restaurant.
