HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

MGM Springfield is reaching out to local veterans who are in need of a job.

On Wednesday, they held a breakfast and career workshop for veterans at Holyoke Community College.

Local veterans and their families were invited to learn about job opportunities provided by MGM Resorts.

"MGM has always been supportive of our vets. We want to make sure that veterans and members of the military community knew that they had job opportunities within MGM Resorts," said Kelley Tucky, vice president of Public Affairs for MGM Resorts International.

Luis Brault is a U.S. Navy veteran. He said he went to the workshop to observe and see if there are any jobs that his veteran friends may be interested in.

"They've got a lot going on. They're trying to do a lot for the community and they're doing a lot for the veterans," said Brault.

MGM is seeking the sole Western Mass casino license. If granted, they are looking to build an $800 million resort in downtown Springfield.

Their competitor, Mohegan Sun, will be holding a recount on Nov. 26 after the town of Palmer voted against their casino proposal back on Nov. 5.

The city of Springfield approved MGM's proposal back in July.
