PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A young girl escaped serious harm by mere inches after a sedan driven by a suspected impaired driver crashed through the family's house late Sunday night.

Phoenix police said a car that had been reported moving erratically before the driver lost control, the car jumped a fence and crashed into the side of the house near 69th Avenue and Indian School Road about 10:30 p.m.

The driver, 26-year-old Daniel Sanchez Patino, ran from the scene and was arrested a few blocks away, said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump. He was arrested and booked into jail on charges of criminal damage, leaving the scene, extreme DUI and endangerment.

A visibly upset mother said her daughter was playing in her room when the car crashed through the side of the house, destroying furniture and coming within inches of hitting the girl.

No other information was immediately available.
