GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A 42-year-old Glendale man is in jail on suspicion of downloading hundreds of images and videos of child pornography.

Police said Matthew Yenkala first came to their attention in 2006 when someone called authorities and claimed he was dating underaged girls. A court document stated the report was taken as "information only."

On Sept. 13, a friend of his, a 19-year-old woman, filed a police report alleging Yenkala was dating underaged girls again. She claimed she was 16 or 17 years old when Yenkala showed her a video of children engaging in sexual activity, according to a probable cause statement.

She said the children appeared to be 11 years old and were not speaking English, court paperwork stated.

On Oct. 3, a Glendale police served a search warrant on his home and vehicle. More than 9,000 items were removed from his home.

During a police interview, Yenkala said he had been collecting child pornography for years, the court document stated.

On Monday, 10 of the images were taken to Childhelp, an organization that helps victims of child abuse and neglect.

The images depicted children between the ages of 5 and 12, according to the probable cause statement.

The court paperwork stated that numerous school children live next to Yenkala and the bus stop for the school is several houses down from his.
