If you are planning to fly out of Phoenix the night before Thanksgiving, you will be among the masses, but Sky Harbor Airport is making some changes to help you out.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez said the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is the busiest night of the year at Sky Harbor.
The airport is offering alternative routes to help ease the congestion. From 6 a.m. on Nov. 22 to 6 a.m. on Dec. 4, the cell phone lot directly east of Terminal No. 4 will close and a larger cell phone lot will open on the northeast side of the airport. Click here for a map of Sky Harbor.
For drivers coming from the west, Sky Harbor will continue to offer its cell phone lot just west of Terminal No. 2.
Rodriguez also recommends family and friends picking up and dropping off travelers use the new Phoenix Sky Train Station at 44th Street and Washington. From the East Valley, drivers can take the Loop 202 west to the 44th Street exit and go south, or they can drive west on Washington to 44th Street and then turn south. Fliers can take an approximately five-minute ride on the Sky Train from Terminal No. 4, which serves 80 percent of the airport's passengers on Southwest, U.S. Airways, Aeromexico, Air Canada, British Airways, Volaris and WestJet.
