HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A Hartford principal is under fire for a heated tweet in response to a fiery school meeting with parents Tuesday night.

The nationally recognized Dr. Steve Perry, who is the principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School, finds himself in hot water Thursday night.

Perry is accused of sending out an emotional and possibly threatening tweet moments after the Hartford Board of Education rejected his push to turn over the management of Sand Elementary School to his company, Capital Preparatory Schools Inc.

"The only way to lose a fight is to stop fighting. All this did was piss me off. It's so on. Strap up, there will be head injuries," the tweet from Perry's account read.

Perry said the tweet was a "metaphor."

"If I had said they're killing me softly, would they have thought that I was dying?" Perry asked Eyewitness News.

Perry insists it was nothing but a metaphor, but the president of the Hartford's Federation of Teachers said that tweet was menacing and frightening.

"They're like, 'Is that me? Does that mean me?'" said Andrea Johnson with Hartford Federation of Teachers. "I'm like, 'I don't know. I can't answer that question.'"

The Board of Education is now getting involved and opened an internal investigation into the tweet. Perry said it's serving as a distraction from a bigger issue.

"It's manufactured outrage for the purpose of creating a stir to in any way to detract from the fact that in Hartford that children, especially of color, are forced to go to failed schools," Perry said.

Eyewitness News asked Perry if he planned to apologize to those whom he may have offended.

"I am offended by the fact that children go to failed schools and people make a living by maintaining those failed structures," Perry said.

Like Perry's tweet stated, his fight is not over. Perry said there is a demand from parent to send their children to a school such Capital Prep, and that's why he's aggressively looking to oversee more schools.
