PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS News) -

Prescott police released the identity of an officer involved in the fatal shooting of an armed man Tuesday in Prescott.

Jared Willis, a six-year veteran of the Prescott Police Department, shot a 44-year-old man who was armed with two knives.

Willis was among the officers who were investigating a report of a suicidal man in the 4000 block of Hornet Drive about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Prescott Police Department spokesman.

The man was holding a knife in each hand, ignored the officer's commands and then charged Willis, who then fired, the spokesman said.

Two other officers performed CPR on the suspect until the Prescott Fire Department arrived. The man was taken to Yavapai Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Willis was placed on administrative leave, the spokesman said.

More information will be released by the Arizona Department of Public Safety upon completion of their investigation, the police spokesman said.
