The Statesboro Police Department has made an arrest in the investigation of the recent bank burglaries.
Detectives arrested Darrell Demond Hunter, 29, of Statesboro, on Wednesday in Claxton, with the assistance of the Evans County Sheriff's Office.
Hunter is charged with 4 separate burglaries. One on May 27 at the Amaco Gas Station on North Main Street; the July 30 burglary at the Farmer's and Merchants Bank on North Main Street; the Heritage Bank of the South on South Main Street Oct. 15; and at the Sea Island Bank on South Main Street on Nov. 25.
On the day before Thanksgiving, the Statesboro Police Department says they received forensic evidence from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab that connected Hunter to the Farmer's and Merchants burglary.
After further investigation, Hunter was located in Claxton and taken into custody. He is being charged with 3 counts of burglary second degree and 1 count of burglary smash and grab.
The case against Hunter remains under investigation.
