NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -
As we approach the one-year anniversary of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, where on Dec. 14, 2012, 20 children and six adults lost their lives, Eyewitness News will share a little about each person's life and how their families are honoring their legacies.
One of them is Madeleine Hsu, who was a loving sister, and a little girl who loved to dance. She was just 6 years old back on that December day.
Her school photo shows a smiling little girl. Madeleine beaming in a bright pink shirt with a butterfly on it and a ribbon in her hair.
Eyewitness News was told that Madeleine's outfits matched her personality, bright and sunny.
As the middle child, Madeleine had a close bond with her two sisters.
The three girls had their own rooms. However, Madeleine, who went by the nickname Maddy, liked to share a bed with them.
Her parents told People Magazine that Madeleine was "a born leader." They added that she was a sweet, unique, bright, sparkling and determined little girl.
As for what made Maddy tick, her parents said she was an avid reader, who loved running and dancing.
A memorial fund has been set up in Maddy's name. Donations can be sent to the following location:
