BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

A Bloomfield teen and star high school football player appeared in Hartford Superior Court Tuesday on charges he stabbed a man to death in November.

Police said 18-year-old Tarence Mitchell attacked and stabbed 27-year-old Ronald Taylor five times with a steak knife outside Mitchell's Bloomfield home.

Court documents revealed that Mitchell told investigators he and Taylor had a relationship, and when Mitchell attempted to end it, things got heated.

Mitchell told police Taylor invited himself over and told him it wasn't going to end well.

Police said Mitchell told him he put the steak knife in his pocket to defend himself because he was scared of Taylor.

Police said the pair got into an argument, which turned violent. Officers said Mitchell stabbed Taylor five times and even left the knife in his back.

Mitchell is being held on a $1 million bond and will appear in court again next Tuesday.
