CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
A Cleveland Municipal Court Bailiff and father rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being shot outside his child's school, over a cell phone.
"You can't even pick your kids up from school. Now that's crazy," said one parent.
Police tells us Elliot Miller and his wife were waiting to pick up their child outside Citizens Academy on Hampden Avenue Monday evening when a man jumped into the backseat of their car, pointing a gun at the couple and demanding their cell phones. Miller's wife handed hers over but he didn't. The suspect shot him.
"It could have been any of us and for what is what my question is, for what a cell phone," stated a parent.
Parents picking up their children from the school are in disbelief. One woman didn't want to be identified describes Miller as a great guy.
"He is very active in the school with kids as far as going on field trips and everything," the parent said.
Andre Crowell tells us he was walking in the same neighborhood about a year ago and was also robbed at gunpoint for his cell phone.
"Pointed the gun said I ain't got nothing. He said empty your pockets," explained Andre,
Now with the latest robbery people in the community want the violent cell phone crook caught.
"I hope they catch him cause if he gets away with it once he'll do it again," said another parent. "It doesn't get worse than that."
We did notice surveillance cameras outside the school. As of yet, Cleveland police say they have not checked to see if video of the suspect was taken.
