Where's the best place to raise a young family in Connecticut? A financial website is listing its top picks and at the top of the list is Orange.
The New Haven suburb ranked No. 1, beating out Trumbull, Newington, West Hartford and Wethersfield to round out the top five.
The website, NerdWallet.com, singles out Orange for keeping a small town feel yet, still seeing growth. There were 32 new businesses added last year. It also graded out high when it came to its schools.
"The biggest draw for us was the school system being so excellent," said Mary Antaya of Orange. "When we moved here we looked all over."
Darien is ranked six with Milford at seven and Wallingford at eight. North Haven and Westport round out the top ten.
"I don't think we're just one of the top places in Connecticut," Milford Mayor Ben Blake said. "I think we're one of the best places on earth."
The rankings, compiled by NerdWallet.com, weighed the town's school systems, available housing and cost of living, along with jobs and if the town is growing.
Accolades like that are nothing new for many of the towns listed. West Hartford's schools have been ranked as some of the best in the country by US News and World Report, and just three years ago Milford was named in the top 100 places for young people.
"Milford is a fantastic place. I'm a young family myself," Blake said. "I have 2two little ones under the age of four. It's always busy and there are always lots of activities."
