Holiday events, toy drives and more happening in CT this weekend

Are you looking for something to do with the kids this weekend? Perhaps you want to drop off a few toys to children in need or have breakfast with Santa.

We have complied a list of some of the great things going on this weekend, from family friendly events to food drives for those in need. We will continue to add things throughout the weekend so check back from time to time.

Toy/Food Drives

  • Statewide - State police will be holding Stuff-A-Cruiser drives on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at dozens of locations across Connecticut. For a full list of locations go here.
  • Bristol - Touch-A-Truck toy drive being held at the Sprint Store, 815 Farmington Ave. Saturday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Cromwell - Police are holding a Fill-A-Crusier food and fuel drive at the Walmart on Berlin Road Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Derby - Heavenly Donut Shop Toy Drive, Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., 548 New Haven Ave.
  • Enfield- Firefighters will escort Santa around town collection food, toys and clothing on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Groton - Police are holding a Fill-The-Cruiser campaign at the Walmart on the Gold Star Highway Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Ledyard - Police annual Stuff-A-Cruiser event for non-perishable foods Sunday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Starwood Village Market
  • Newington - Police holding a Stuff-A-Cruiser event at the Walmart on the Berlin Turnpike Saturday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Old Lyme - Fire Deparment Toy Drive Sunday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the firehouse on Lyme Street and near the Big Y on Halls Road.
  • Old Saybrook - Police department toy drive at Walmart Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Rocky Hill - Rocky Hill Stuff-A-Truck/Fill-A-Crusier event on Saturday 10 a.m - 2 p.m. at the Walmart, Westside Market and the Big Y.
  • Vernon - CT Association of Women Police are holding a Shelter Drive at the Kmart on Hartford Turnpike Saturday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Waterbury - Marie's Jewelry holding a toy drive from CCMC at their location on East Main Street.

Family Events

  • Bristol -  Breakfast with Santa at the Giamatti Little League Center, Mix Street, Saturday 8:30 -11:30 a.m.  Children are free, adults $5 or a donation of a new, unwrapped toy.
  • Bristol - Plunge for Sandy Hook being held at Lake Compounce on Sunday 8 a.m. More details here.
  • Broad Brook - Reading of the Polar Express with hot chocolate and other sweets at the Book Club, 100 Main St. on Sunday from 1-3 p.m.
  • Clinton - Christmas in Clinton Open House at the Historical Society, Sunday 3-6 p.m. at 103 East Main St.
  • East Norwalk - Saint Nicholas visits Missional Priest of Christ Church for 8 and 10 a.m. worships.
  • Groton - Holiday Lights Parade starting at South Road and ends at the Groton Shopping Plaza, Saturday at 5 p.m.
  • Middletown - Wadsworth Mansion Holiday Bazaar, Sunday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday at 421 Wadsworth St. Admission for children is free, adults by donation.
  • New Britain - Rock Cats Winterfest at New Britain Stadium Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., free food, refreshments, pictures with Santa and Rocky.
  • Niantic - Winterfest kicks off Saturday noon - 5 p.m. followed by a Lights Parade down Main Street and fire works at 5 p.m.
  • North Haven - Kids for Kids Holiday Show at North Haven High School, Saturday 3-5:30 p.m.
  • Shelton - Festival of Trees at the firehouse, 5 Lake Rd. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Wolcott - Pet pictures with Santa at the Wolcott Fire Company 2 on North St. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.


  • Glastonbury - Santa Run on Sunday at noon, starting at Glastonbury High School. $15 entry fee, benefits the Glastonbury Fuel Bank.
  • Hartford - Santa Pub Crawl for multiple sclerosis 6:30 p.m. Saturday, more details here.
  • New Haven - 29th Annual Christopher Martins Christmas Run for Children, Sunday at 10:15 a.m. starts on State Street (no day of registration).
  • Portland - Christmas Tree Charity Day at Hale Hill Farm, 815 Glastonbury Turnpike from noon-5 p.m. $50 for fresh cut Christmas Trees, proceeds go to help fight multiple sclerosis.
  • West Hartford - Blue Back Mitten Run Sunday at 10 a.m. in Blue Back Square, participants and spectators asked to bring new mittens, gloves, hats or scarves to donate.
