BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

A Bloomfield teen and star high school football player accused of fatally stabbing a 27-year-old man with a steak knife multiple times was released on a $1 million bond Tuesday.

Police said 18-year-old Tarence Mitchell attacked and stabbed 27-year-old Ronald Taylor five times with a steak knife outside Mitchell's Bloomfield home on Nov. 21.

Mitchell even chased him down after a verbal argument turned deadly, police said.

Court papers indicate Mitchell and Taylor had some sort of sexual relationship the last two years.

Mitchell told authorities he wasn't gay, and that Taylor threatened him if he didn't engage in a relationship.

Seven letters of support sent to the judge from Mitchell's relatives, his football coach, guidance counselor, teacher and even on-again-off-again girlfriend.

They asked for money online, for his million dollar bond, while a family friend gathered hundreds of signatures of support.

The family of Mitchell was able to raise $25,000 needed for him to be released on Tuesday.

Mitchell's family said they'll be praying at their home in Bloomfield, where Mitchell will be. He is not allowed to leave and ordered to wear an electronic ankle bracelet.

While the victim's family is still staying silent, the suspect's relatives said they expected him to be let out of prison. Taylor's relatives buried him one week ago. They said he "never bothered nobody" and "never hung out in the street."

The family of Bloomfield's Varsity Football captain believe he was harassed and intimidated by the victim.
