3 arrested for firing paintballs at people walking in Norwich

NORWICH, CT (WFSB) -

Three teenagers were arrested after police said they shot people with paintballs as they were walking down the streets of Norwich.

From Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, numerous people complained to police about being shot by paintballs from a moving vehicle while walking or standing on the sidewalk.

In the assaults, police said several children, a pregnant woman and a dog were hit by the paintballs. All of the victims suffered "minor injuries," police said.

Police arrested 19-year-old Tevin C. Merrill, of Ledyard, 18-year-old Jaquontee Reels, of Ledyard, and 18-year-old Keith N. Robinson, of Norwich.

Robinson, who was arrested at his home on Dec. 8, was charged with the following crimes:

  • second-degree assault  
  • nine counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault
  • conspiracy to commit second-degree assault of a pregnant/elderly person
  • three counts of conspiracy to commit risk of injury to a minor
  • conspiracy to commit cruelty animals
  • three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless endangerment
  • unlawful discharge of an air gun
  • 12 counts of conspiracy to commit unlawful discharge of an air gun

Reels, who was arrested at MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino on Dec. 9, was charged with the following crimes:

  • nine counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault
  • conspiracy to commit second-degree assault of a pregnant/elderly person
  • three counts of conspiracy to commit risk of injury to a minor
  • conspiracy to commit cruelty animals
  • three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless endangerment
  • 13 counts of conspiracy to commit unlawful discharge of an air gun

Merrill, who turned himself in to police on Dec. 10, was charged with the following crimes:

  • nine counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault
  • conspiracy to commit second-degree assault of a pregnant/elderly person
  • three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless endangerment
  • six counts of conspiracy to commit unlawful discharge of an air gun

Merrill was arraigned at Norwich Superior Court on Tuesday. Robinson and Reels, who are both being held on $25,000 bond, are expected at Norwich Superior Court on Dec. 19.
