Route 12, Route 2A in Preston closed after tractor-trailer rollover

PRESTON, CT (WFSB) -

Route 12 and Route 2A in Preston were closed for several hours after a tractor-trailer rollover Wednesday afternoon.

The crash, which involved a tractor-trailer for the city of New London Public Works Department, was reported around 2 p.m.

The southbound side of Route 12 was closed from the intersection of Route 2A until Bittersweet Drive.

Route 2A was closed between Mohegan Sun Boulevard until near the former Norwich Hospital site.

Traffic was diverted onto Route 214.

The unidentified driver of the tractor-trailer told police that his brakes failed as he was trying to negotiate the intersection.

The driver was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

The wires and a utility pole were knocked down as a result of the rollover. The pole and the wires were replaced.

There were no outages reported.

The driver was delivering a load of paper waste to a nearby processing plant.

The Connecticut State Police are investigating the crash.
