The University of Connecticut is looking for property owners and developers interested in building or otherwise providing housing for its downtown Stamford campus.
UConn placed ads in area newspapers on Wednesday asking property owners or developers to "file expressions of interest" by Jan. 17.
It's part of a plan launched by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, a former mayor of Stamford, to establish a residential campus in the city.
Spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz told The Advocate of Stamford that the budget is $10 million, but that partnerships could increase the budget.
UConn is looking for a proposal that provides no fewer than 200 beds in a combination of layouts. Ideally, rent should be about $800 a month per bed.
The Business Council of Fairfield County says college students downtown would benefit local shops and restaurants.
