A Connecticut legislative panel is holding a public hearing to learn more about recent problems with the Metro-North commuter rail line, as well as other rail-related issues.
Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker is addressing the Transportation Committee on Wednesday. Besides Metro-North, he's expected to discuss improvement at the New Haven rail yard and a strategic transportation planning initiative.
Earlier this month, there was a deadly derailment on a Metro-North line in New York. In May, there was a derailment in Bridgeport that injured 76 people. Later that month, a track foreman was struck and killed.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Tuesday received a report he requested from Metro-North on recent infrastructure, technology and safety actions taken by the commuter railroad, which promised to resume regular service by April.
