Man pleads guilty in baby's death in Ansonia

A 37-year-old man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and faces up to 11 years in prison for the death of a baby in Ansonia two years ago.

The New Haven Register reports that Angel Luis Santiago of West Haven agreed to the plea deal Wednesday in Milford Superior Court. He will continue to be held on $1 million bail until his scheduled sentencing on March 12.

State's Attorney Kevin Lawlor said Santiago shook 5-month-old Kyle Robinson so violently in June 2011 that the boy's spinal cord separated from his brain. Santiago was the boyfriend of the baby's mother at the time and was watching Kyle and two other boys. He wasn't the baby's father.

Santiago told authorities that he found Kyle unresponsive and tried to revive him.
