A railroad will pay $1.25 million to the family of an 18-year-old man who was killed four years ago when his truck was struck by a freight train at a crossing in Plainfield.
The Day of New London reports the settlement was announced Thursday by the Reardon Law Firm of New London.
Rick Cima Jr. of Planfield was killed Sept. 9, 2009, when his pickup truck was broadsided by a Providence & Worcester Railroad freight train. The crossing had warning lights and bells but no crossing gates.
Robert Reardon Jr., who represented Cima's estate, said the train had been speeding.
The settlement was reached through mediation directed by Judge Holly Fitzsimmons in Bridgeport.
A representative for the railroad was not immediately available to comment.
